Incident Command System
The Monterey County Fire Training Officers Association maintains a standing committee dedicated to the awareness and training of Incident Command. On May 31, 1987, Monterey County fire agencies were challenged with the largest loss fire in County history. The wildland fire burned hundreds of acres and destroyed numerous homes in the upscale community of Pebble Beach. Following that disastrous fire, the fire service in Monterey County committed to improving the County Communications Plan, the Monterey County Mutual Aid Plan, and mandated the use of the Incident Command System for all participants of countywide mutual and automatic aid. The MCFTOA played a key role in training for these improvements, and continues to play a key role in the awareness, training, and development of Incident Command in the fire service.
