Meeting called to order at 1030 hours by President Dave Cruz

I.          Roll Call:

 II.         Approval of Minutes:

 Review of the minutes from the meeting of December 13, 2007 hosted by the Monterey Airport Fire Department and recorded by Dan Gearhart.  Motion by Dave Sargenti, second by Dan Gearhart to accept and approve the minutes as presented.  Motion carried.

 III.        Treasurer’s Report:

 The monthly Treasurer’s Report was presented by Dan Gearhart on behalf of the bookkeeper Kathryn Pernet.

 Motion of Dave Sargenti, second by Doug McCoun to accept the Treasurer’s Report as presented.  Motion carried.

 IV.       Correspondence:

 1.         A thank you letter was sent to Chief Wombacher, thanking him for the donation of Fire Shelters to the MCTOA.

 V.        Committee Reports:

             A.        ICS:  There are 15 students signed up for the upcoming Planning Section Chief class. 

 B.        Wildland Committee:  See Wildland Committee Minutes for specific details.

 C.        Fire Library:  Invoices will be sent out at the end of the month.  Expected income is $3,200 and expenses are expected to be at $2,940    

             D.        Programs: 

1.         The auto extrication class is scheduled for April 26th and 27th.  The training group will have a meeting in March.  Joe Pastore will be at the February meeting.

2.         The PC 832 class is scheduled for May 12-16, 2008.  The fee for the class is $110.00.  More information to follow in March.

E.        Monterey Peninsula College:  No report.

F.         Wellness and Fitness Committee:  The Peer Fitness Trainer Certification Class is going to be full.  If local agencies want to attend they need to commit.  The class is going to be opened to the outside, local agencies who are planning on attending need to contact Michele Vaughn as soon as possible.  Humberto Arista and Dave Sargenti reported that the Wellness and Fitness Committee are researching the most cost effective method of providing physicals.  They had a quote from a company that travels to the area and SVMH has been contacted for a quote.  SVMH has responded but the quote has not been evaluated at this time.   

VI.       Old Business:

1.         High-Rise Functional Exercise:  The High-Rise Exercise is expected to happen in around the first week of February.  More information to follow.   The next quarterly drill is tentatively scheduled for April.

VII.      New Business:

1.        Dan Gearhart and Doug McCoun are tasked with bringing back recommendations which will be discussed at the next meeting concerning the Training Officers Web site.  Dan Gearhart will make contact with Mike Ventimiglia for his input and recommendations.

VIII.     Good of the Order:

1.         Dave Cruz wanted to advise everybody of the Firefighters bill of rights.

2.         Rick Williams reported that the Salinas Fire Department is hoping to expand the training facilities at Station #3. They are working on a Lease Purchase deal and is hoping that the deal will be finalized soon.  They plan to use the building for Public Safety Training and house the department’s museum at that location.  He also reported that they are hiring new firefighters.

3.         Humberto Arista reported that North County is hosting a Driver Operator 1B class and the class still has openings.

4.         Soledad is hosting a First Responder to EMT class.  The class is 60 hours and will be open to the outside.  Send Jacob an email if interested. More information to follow.

5.         The Firefighter of the Year and installation Dinner will be held on Thursday January 31, 2008.  Everybody is invited.

6.         Dan Gerhart reported that Seaside Fire is hosting a Sexual Harassment / Discrimination training class.  The class will be put on by the California Joint Powers Insurance Authority.  For more information go to the California Joint Powers Insurance Authority Web site.
