Meeting called to order at 10:30 by President Brown

  1. Approval of Minutes:
  2. Motion for approval of August 8, 2002 minutes by S. Roth. Second by C. Trenner. Motion passed.

  3. Treasury Report:
  4. Beginning balance - $19,828.33

  5. Correspondence/Announcements:
  6. Introduction of Engineer Matt Johnson of CDF Battalion 2. FAE Johnson is a HazMat Tech/Spec and is interested in getting involved in the training aspect.

  7. Committee Reports:
    1. ICS:

M. Urquides requested that a S-430 class be held in the near future. P. Matteson and C. Trenner will research on the CDF side and try to find an instructor. It was also requested that we publish a Self-paced ICS class list. P. Matteson will be further researching the possibilities of hosting an S-215 Firing Methods class. C. Trenner and P. Matteson will be hosting an I-300/400 class this winter. D. Gearhart expressed some interest in getting law enforcement more involved in our ICS system during incidents for more continuity and better working relations.

C. Fire Library:

M. Schuler was able to get a 25% discount on the IFSTA tapes for M. Urquides. Still need to purchase the "Car Buster" series.

D. Programs:

The RIC classes are all still a go.

    • RIC Train-the-Trainer class will be held on Tues. Oct. 1 at Monterey Fire Dept. – EOC.
    • Oct. 3rd & 4th to be held in Salinas at Station #3
    • Oct. 5th & 6th to be held at the Carmel Crossroads at Hwy 1 X Rio Road

D. Brown inquired if there was any interest in having Paul Stein teach a class, Brown will do some research for Fall of 2003. S. Roth tentatively has booked Alan Brunacini of Phoenix Fire Dept. to teach a class in April.

    3. High-Rise:

S. Roth is working on getting Chiefs Gillis and Defeo, LAFD, here for a seminar, possibly on th Palomar Fire.

G. EMS:

M. Urquides scheduled and attended the MAP training with Jodi Schaffer at SRFD. He said it was good, informative training.

    1. Training and Standards:
    2. The building in Salinas on Natividad is still being researched. No burning allowed but would be good for searches, RIC, air management, etc.

      The movement drill is set for September 29 @ 1800 hrs. at the Northridge Mall.

      D. Gearhart has a building on Palm St. in Seaside available for training through the end of the year. Crossroads Cinema also available into 2003 for training with full RIC props set up inside.

  3. New Business:
  4. Monterey County Chiefs have asked for a review of 2 in/2 out vs. RIC. Need to clarify standards and policy. A committee of D. Gearhart, D. Brown, M. Vindhurst, M. Urquides, and S. Mazza was formed to meet and review. There was discussion on the concerns of how people are interpreting RIC and the amount of people actually needed to carry out RIC functions and effect a rescue.

  5. Good of the Order:
    1. Trenner raised discussion about the annual fundraising golf tournament at Rancho Canada. A committee was formed to plan a tournament for the spring. Committee consists of: C. Trenner, J. Trenner, M. Schuler, D. Brown and E. Hanzelka

P. Matteson asked that departments should prioritize their needs for ICS classes and he’ll make an assessment of the most needed and schedule the classes through the MCFTO’s. There was concern of not having many qualified individuals in important areas, need to hold more classes at the local level. Matteson stated that the resources are out there, just need to time to find and schedule the instructors.
