MEETING MINUTES
July 10, 2002
Salinas Fire Department

Meeting called to order at 10:30 by Vice –President Roth – Due to lack of quorum, this was an information meeting only.

  3. Approval of Minutes:
  4. Minutes from previous meeting were reviewed

  5. Treasury Report:
  6. Polly Fry presented the Treasurer’s report. Ms. Fry explained that there was an adjustment of $260.00 made to the beginning balance due to a check written in the prior fiscal year.

    Beginning balance $23,880.41

    Ending balance $19,581.68

  7. Correspondence/Announcements:
  8. The T-shirts purchased for the Wildland School were printed without a year on them; therefore they can be used for next year’s wildland school.

    Salinas Fire Dept will be performing their fire academy from 29 July 2002-3 October 2002. Persons interested in having members from their department participate in parts of the training contact Al Dunnings at Salinas Fire Dept.

    The Salinas Air show will be 4-6 October 2002

  9. Committee Reports:
    1. ICS:

Stewart Roth and Mike Vindhurst discussed conducting ICS 300 and ICS 400 classes, No date projected at this time

    1. Wildland:

                Mr. Vindhurst advised of a high fire risk warning in the Sierra, Lassen, Modoc and Butte areas.

C. Fire Library:

Mr. Roth stated that the head of that committee has finished the inventory of training slide programs and videos has separated them and items obsolete for our current training have been sent to Mexico.

D. Programs:

                    A basic RIC class is scheduled for 3-6 October2002.

                    The 3rd & 4th to be held in Salinas at Station #3

                    The 5th & 6th to be held in Pacific Grove and Monterey at Station #3

The needs assessment program came up in discussion and concerns regarding accomplishing another were voiced.

    1. Haz Mat:
    2. A Haz-Mat First Responder class is being held by Monterey Fire Dept at the EOC on 22 July 2002, Contact Stewart Roth for enrollment information.

    3. High-Rise:

A new draft for high-rise operations written by Dave Brown has been sent to the Operations committee for approval.

G. EMS:

                No report.

    1. Training and Standards:
    2. The facility located at 1322 Natividad has been inspected for use on training evolutions. The building sits close to the street and traffic control may be an issue. We will plan to use the building for a drill in the near future, more to follow at a later date.

    3. Web Site

  1. Old Business:

    The Needs assessment for 1998 was brought out and the top 4 training needs were:

    1. Firefighter Safety
    2. Fire officer
    3. Structural fire control
    4. Engine company operations

The members discussed creating and fielding a new survey. Posting it on the website for the widest distribution. Having personnel print the survey, complete and return. The results were discussed and members decided that the greater distribution and response would provide more accurate results regarding the county fire departments’ needs.

  1. New Business:
  2. Mr. Schuler attended a meeting regarding the Mobile air supply unit that Salinas Rural FD has. SRFD had asked to have the E-Z Ups purchased by the MCFTOA be stored on the air unit to be used for rehab at a large incident. Members present discussed the issue. Questions raised regarding billing for use this unit if only the tents are required for rehab. The tents are free to use by request through the MCFTOA they just need to be picked up from their storage area or other arrangements made.

  3. Good of the Order:
  4. Jeff Field at Pacific Grove Fire Dept is putting together a helicopter ocean rescue drill on August 11, 2002. The location of the training is at the Monterey Airport then Seaside Beach.

    Polly fry advises that all instructors who are paid over $600/ year will be issued a Tax Form 1099 starting this year and from now on.

    The next meeting will be a dinner meeting at Cachagua on Thursday, August 8, at 1800 hrs. Please RSVP to Catey Trenner by Monday, August 5.
